Psychiatry, as for today has become a mandatory area for most of the population in this stressful world. As per WHO, nearly 75% of the global population has to undergo atleast an episode of mental illness in any form in their lifetime. Current trends are growing up from psychotropics & ECT to Transcranial magnetic stimulation which has a wider benefit in treating chronic mental illness patients.
Dr.Anand babu, M.D.(PSY) who served as senior resident in JIPMER has started Dept. Of psychiatry at SIMS Chellum Hospital, Salem in 2016. In addition special internship training programme for B.Sc psychology students is being conducted, where students approach from various colleges of Tamil Nadu and Bangalore.
